Helping the Helping Hand Home | KXAN.com Blogs

September 18th, 2012 at 3:08 pm by Jim Spencer under Weather

Regular viewers know about KXAN?s long relationship with Austin?s Helping Hand Home for Children. What essentially began as an orphanage in 1893 has evolved over time from a basic childcare facility for abandoned children into a residential treatment center for children who have experienced extreme abuse and neglect.

But, to continue the life-changing work they do at the Home, community support is vital. That?s why I?m asking you to support next month?s Champions for Children Awards Luncheon.? All the information you need is below, and you may call (512) 459-7705 for more information, or visit www.helpinghandhome.org.? You can even buy at table or individual tickets online by clicking here.?

Many in our community support the home in many different ways. For example, this Saturday Chris Burnett, the Outdoor Recreation Program Director for the UT-Austin Division of Recreational Sports, is taking a group of children paddle boarding out on Lady Bird Lake, and then in November will have them on campus to do some rock climbing and a tour of campus, including a ?tower tour?.

We salute Chris and all of those who volunteer and otherwise support the Helping Hand Home! You are truly making a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable in our community!
